Joan FarrenkopfExperiencing Seaside Yoga in its first year and seeing it as an asset to the community, Joan decided to embark on the journey of teacher training, furthering her avenue of expression in teaching the Taoist tradition with the I Ching, so the people may live in peace. Joan received a competitive fine art scholarship and graduated with honors from Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York and further studied with an award at the London College of Printing, London, England. Professionally, she has lived "many lives," from freelance photographer, artist, receiving awards for historic restorations in New York and North Carolina, and Young Careerist awards for professional achievement, to enjoying an athletic 15 years as a certified USSA Professional Ski Instructor and Alpine Ski Coach. Beyond the external involvements of an early life, Joan embarked on a transformative journey studying healing art with Howard Bad Hand, a Lakota Spiritual teacher and master of the I Ching, the basis of Taoist philosophy. This study of over 19 years involved Joan beyond being a student, to facilitating workshops for her teacher in the US and Germany. This study of the Tao brought Joan into greater involvement of indigenous healing with the Elders from the Rosebud Reservation, South Dakota. Joan is a licensed Cranial Sacral therapist (CST), with a private practice in Wilmington, NC. Her therapy and yoga have been part of the Healings Arts Network at New Hanover Regional Medical Center for the past 12 years. Nationally, she is a teaching assistant and preceptor of advanced CST training for the Upledger Institute, West Palm, Florida, the teaching institute for CST. She was invited to research dolphin assisted therapy there, and later became therapist-at-large for the Dolphin Research Institute, Grassy Key, Florida. Joan fully explores life, and is a joyous teacher, bringing a unique approach to field. She teaches from a foundation of lifelong study of art and healing; a profession which she began 22 years ago.
